Pre-Commissioning and Commissioning Services
Pre-commissioning and commissioning carry a facility from mechanical completion to reliable operation. Pre-commissioning is the work performed on systems after construction and before start-up — verification, cleaning, pressure testing, calibration and functional checks — so that every system is proven ready before it is asked to run. Commissioning follows: controlled energization, first start, tuning and performance verification against design, ending in formal turnover to the owner's operations team.
Volantis Group delivers pre-commissioning and commissioning services to EPC contractors, plant owners and commissioning managers across power, oil and gas, LNG, petrochemical and mission critical projects. Scope is delivered as a standalone service or as an integrated package with fluid system flushing and debris removal, engineering and procedure development, specialty equipment rental and operation and project management and consulting.
Why Pre-Commissioning Matters
Newly fabricated piping and equipment are not clean. Mill scale, weld slag, debris, hydrocarbons and particulates remain inside systems that look finished from the outside. Left in place, they produce four failure modes that surface long after the construction team has left site.
Heat Transfer Degradation
Fouling from residual debris raises the fouling factor in heat exchangers, coolers and condensers, reducing thermal efficiency and driving up energy consumption for the life of the facility.
Corrosion Acceleration
Unstable water chemistry and residual debris promote metal loss and continuous particulate generation, turning surface contamination into systemic corrosion.
Mechanical Damage
Suspended solids erode pump impellers and seals, clog strainers and reduce net positive suction head. Damage accumulates in standby equipment as well, so redundancy can be lost before it is ever called on.
System-Wide Risk
Scaling, microbial growth and particulate migration do not respect system boundaries. Contamination travels through the network into control valves, instruments and exchangers, turning a local problem into a plant-wide vulnerability.
A pre-commissioning programme that cleans, conditions and verifies each system removes these risks before start-up and establishes the baseline for stable operation.
The VGICommissioning™ Process
A structured, operations-focused approach that validates not only that systems start, but that they perform reliably under real operating conditions.
1. Plan & Prepare
Design and scope review, a cleaning matrix per system, execution sequencing, risk assessment and resource planning, agreed against the construction schedule
2. Clean & Condition
High-velocity flushing and chemical cleaning remove mill scale, debris and oils, with passivation to leave surfaces conditioned against corrosion
3. Test & Verify
Mechanical completion checks, loop checks, functional testing, system balancing and performance verification against design
4. Start-Up & Tune
Controlled energization, first start, tuning of control loops and operating baselines, and operator training ahead of handover
5. Handover
Performance verification, documentation, test records, O&M manuals and a complete turnover package, with support into operation
