Commissioning Services, From Engineering to Turnover

One Scope, Twelve Services

Isometric view of a temporary pre-commissioning setup: chemical cleaning pumps, filtration, hoses and connection points on a plant system.

Every project reaches the point where the systems have to be proven rather than built. What gets cleaned, in what order, and against which acceptance criteria decides whether start-up is a milestone or a recovery plan.

The twelve services below are how that work is delivered. They are grouped by what each one does to the system rather than by which commercial package it sits under, because the technical sequence is what a commissioning manager is actually buying.

Volantis Group operates under a quality management system certified to ISO 9001:2015.

The twelve fall into four families:

Engineering, Commissioning & Completions

The discipline that decides what gets cleaned, proves each system is ready, and assembles the records the owner accepts.

Process, mechanical, I&E and structural engineering, and the procedures that follow from it: P&ID markups, cleaning matrices, and the acceptance criteria each system will be judged against. Procedures, cleaning matrices and acceptance criteria issued before mobilisation.

Full-scope commissioning from first energisation to steady-state operation — mechanical completion and system verification, I&E and controls, loop checks, functional testing and performance testing under one team. Mechanical, I&E, controls, loop checks and performance testing in one package.

Boundary definition, inspection and test records, flange management, punch resolution and preservation, assembled into a turnover package the owner can accept without rework. Inspection and test records, flange management and completions dossiers to mechanical completion.

Chemical Cleaning & Passivation

Chemistry for the deposits a flush cannot lift, applied as a circulating clean and closed out with passivation.

Deposit sampling and chemistry selection, then circulating cleaning, filtration, rinsing, neutralisation and passivation. The method for mill scale, iron oxides and process fouling that a water flush cannot remove. Deposits identified by XRD, ICP and CHN&S before chemistry is selected.

A single solvent volume replaces the three separate chemical treatments conventional cleaning needs. An organic iron sequestration agent holds dissolved iron through the pH transition so it cannot precipitate back onto the metal. One solvent fill replaces three treatments and seven to eight volumes of water.

High-Energy Cleaning & Blowing

Four ways to move contamination out of a line on its own momentum — an aerated water slug, a pig, compressed air or steam.

A slug of water aerated with air is driven through the line at high velocity, scouring the wall and carrying debris out ahead of it. It follows branches and elevation changes a pig cannot, which is why it replaces pigging on complex networks. 40–80 ft/s aerated slug.

Conventional, gauging and intelligent pigging for long straight runs and integrity work — caliper geometry surveys and MFL or UT inspection that a flush cannot perform. Where a network is too complex to pig, FuryFlush does the cleaning instead. Caliper, MFL and UT inspection alongside foam, brush and magnetic cleaning trains.

Controlled pneumatic cleaning for non-steam systems, engineered around a calculated cleaning force ratio rather than an uncontrolled decompression through a burst disc or sacrificial gasket. CFR ≥ 1.0, ideally 1.1–1.2.

Low-pressure continuous steam blowing that holds superheated conditions and recycles condensate. The conventional pulse or huff-and-puff method often cannot generate enough cleaning force on its own. CFR > 1.2 with up to 90% condensate recycling.

Fluid Conditioning & Drying

The systems that hold oil, water and moisture, and the verification that proves their condition before handover.

High-velocity filtered flushing of lube, seal and hydraulic oil systems on compressors, turbines and rotating equipment. Particulate as small as 20 microns — half the width of a human hair — is enough to destroy a bearing. Verified to ISO/NAS/SAE particle counts with inline monitoring.

Multi-stage mechanical filtration from 100 microns down to 0.45, with the flushing medium recovered and reused rather than discharged. Cuts water consumption, chemical spend and wastewater volume on the same scope. 70–90% water reuse, monitored for turbidity, conductivity, pH and chlorides.

Controlled heat, steam and inert gas remove moisture bound to the metal surface rather than only drying the gas stream. For systems where no residual moisture is permitted before first fill. −50 to −70 °C dew point, 50–70% faster than nitrogen alone.
